Head of Government and External Engagement, Elliot Stein

Elliot Stein is the Head of Government and External Engagement at UNICEF Australia. Hailing from the Northern Illawarra, Elliot has had a long career working at the most senior levels of Federal and State Governments and in the private sector in Australia and overseas.

Elliot has served as an interim Chief of Staff within the Albanese Federal Government to establish the office of the Minister for Aged Care and Sport, and as a political adviser to the now-Treasurer Jim Chalmers.  

He was a senior adviser in the Rudd and Gillard Governments to the Minister for Agriculture and Minister for Flood Recovery Joseph Ludwig and a Chief of Staff to multiple Ministers in the Palaszczuk Queensland Government, including to the Minister for Transport and the Commonwealth Games. 

Working in New York, Elliot served the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade as Director for Public Diplomacy and later as a strategic communications consultant for the Glover Park Group. Elliot holds a Masters in Public Policy and Governance from the University of Queensland and a Bachelor of Arts from the Australian National University majoring in political science and international relations. He is a published academic author and features regularly in the media.
